It spread over almost the entire territory. The Dordogne has not escaped and was one of the first department invaded. This pest, without natural predators, is a threat to our ecosystem.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Asian Hornet<\/strong> does not represent a real danger for humans. Its venom is no more toxic than that of its European cousin. It is for the <strong>bees<\/strong> that it is a threat. They make up <strong>80%<\/strong> of his diet. That&#8217;s why we must act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a class=\"js-fancybox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/frelon-asiatique-camping-dordogne-perigord-noir-le-douzou.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/frelon-asiatique-camping-dordogne-perigord-noir-le-douzou-447x300.jpg\" alt=\"reconna\u00eetre frelon asiatique camping dordogne 3 \u00e9toiles le Douzou\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How to identify an Asian hornet ?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Smaller than the classic hornet, the Asian does not exceed <strong>3 cm<\/strong>. It is thanks to its<strong> color<\/strong> that we can distinguish it. A dominant <strong>black<\/strong>, he has an <strong>orange band<\/strong> on his abdomen and his legs are <strong>yellow<\/strong>. His <strong>swarm<\/strong> is also recognizable. In the form of a <strong>balloon<\/strong>, it can reach a diameter of <strong>1m20<\/strong>. If you approach within 5 meters, you may be exposed to a collective and determined attack. The nests are usually built at a height of more than <strong>10 meters<\/strong>, exposed to the sun, as on the <strong>treetops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How did he come to France ?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was seen for the first time in France in 2004 in the <strong>Lot et Garonne<\/strong> department. It has probably arrived from <strong>China<\/strong> by container ship. He spread quickly. A swarm will spawn <strong>four new nests<\/strong> the following year. It is now present throughout Western Europe, from Portugal to Germany.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Why is it considered harmful ?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a class=\"js-fancybox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/frelon-asiatique-abeille-camping-dordogne-perigord-noir-le-douzou.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5644 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/frelon-asiatique-abeille-camping-dordogne-perigord-noir-le-douzou.jpg\" alt=\"frelon asiatique pr\u00e9dateur des abeilles camping dordogne p\u00e9rigord noir le Douzou\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a>The Asian Hornet is not a direct <strong>danger<\/strong> to humans. The Asian is the only insect that knows how to <strong>fly hovering<\/strong>. He places himself in this position at the entrance to the <strong>apiary<\/strong>. He catches and kills the <strong>bees<\/strong> he brings back to his swarm to feed the <strong>larvae<\/strong> that will give birth to new hornets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The whole <strong>hive<\/strong> will not be exterminated by the hornet. Its presence will disorient bees that will abandon and kill their habitat.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">What are the ways to fight the Asian hornet ?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In France, the Asian hornet does not have a <strong>natural predator<\/strong>, with the exception of some species of birds that are insufficient to represent a threat. It is up to the man to try to control this invasion if he can not eradicate it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/lutte-contre-frelon-asiatique-camping-dordogne-3-etoiles-le-douzou-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5652 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/lutte-contre-frelon-asiatique-camping-dordogne-3-etoiles-le-douzou-2-230x230.jpg\" alt=\"pi\u00e8ge frelon asiatique camping p\u00e9rigord 3 \u00e9toiles le Douzou\" width=\"230\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>Opinions differ on this subject. The department and towns of <strong>Dordogne<\/strong> encourage people to use <strong>traps<\/strong> in early spring. This method involves mixing beer, syrup and white wine in a plastic bottle. At this time, the <strong>queens<\/strong> come out of <strong>hibernation<\/strong> and seek to build a new swarm. Trapped, their capture will avoid the construction of a nest with an average of <strong>2500 hornets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But this strategy has its <strong>detractors<\/strong> who believe that the traps also cause the loss of many insects attracted by the sweet mix. For the moment, the <strong>systematic destruction<\/strong> of the <strong>nests<\/strong> remains the unanimous method but only to knowledgeable and equipped <strong>professionals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the <strong>last two seasons<\/strong>, we did not find <strong>any nest<\/strong> in or near the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campingledouzou.fr\/en\/\">campsite in Perigord<\/a>. The installation of <strong>traps<\/strong> in early spring may be the cause. We capture a lot of <strong>queens<\/strong> during this period.
